Reigns vs. Cena Mega-Match Set For WWE Summerslam

After some back and forth and Finn Balor getting involved as a red herring, the two biggest Superstars in WWE finally have a marquee match together. It will be Roman Reigns vs. John Cena for the Universal Championship at WWE Summerslam, August 21 (22nd in Australia) 2021. Las Vegas. The beautiful new Allegiant Stadium. Las Vegas, baby!

John Cena made his grand return to WWE at the Money In The Bank PPV last month. He made his entrance following the Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Edge, having a staredown with champion Reigns. All signs pointed to the two having a Summerslam showdown, but we had a brief fork in the road where Roman rejected Cena's challenge, instead accepting the challenge of Finn Balor, who recently returned to Smackdown himself.

On this week's episode of Smackdown, a contract signing was set for Summerslam between Reigns & Balor. Before Balor could sign, though, Baron Corbin hit the ring and took Balor out. Corbin looked to sign the contract himself, but instead Cena ran out, dispatched of Baron and signed the match contract. Apparently that was good enough for authority figures Adam Pearce & Sonya Deville, and the match is official!

This marks the second signed match for Summerslam, with a Triple Threat for the Raw Women's Championship set on Raw this past week. New champion Nikki ASH puts the title on the line against former champions Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley. All signs point towards Bobby Lashley vs. Goldberg taking place for the WWE Championship as well, and we are likely to see a grudge match between Edge & Seth Rollins as well.
